My passion is music and it gives me great pleasure to share the knowledge that I have gained through my academic and performance experience. I like to teach, and look forward to continuing to do so with interested students of all ages and backgrounds.
I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a B.A. in Theatre & a Minor in Music. I’ve also completed my Grade 10 Piano certificate with the Royal Conservatory of Music with Honours. I have taught piano and guitar at West End Music School in Ottawa, Music to Grades 3/4 of the Ottawa Waldorf School, and Songwriting workshops with youth in Manitouwadge Northern Ontario, to name a few. I’ve had students ranging in age from 3.5 – 40+ yrs. My main instruments of instruction would be piano (beginner-advanced), and guitar (beginner-intermediate). My fees are $30/half-hr and $50/hr. Lessons can be held at your home, or at my home studio.
- Teaching Philosophy
I personally believe that the teacher is a facilitator between student and subject. With each unique individual, it is incumbent upon the teacher to find out how to support this connection on a student by student basis.
While there is no one-size fits all to my lessons approach, for young students especially, I highly recommend the benefits of following a structured program such as The Royal Conservatory of Music. Having levels and goals to achieve provides reference points and motivation for their development, and there are scholastic advantages as well (Grade 7 piano counts as a grade 11 high school credit, while Grade 8 piano counts as a Grade 12 high school credit, for example). I also incorporate popular music, songwriting, singing, theory, and improvisation into lessons as well.
